A flat credit-card edge tends to crush the tick body before dislodging the head, unlike a notched tick-removal card.

01
DO NOT use a regular credit card edge to scrape off an attached tick.
02
The straight edge is more likely to mash the tick body against the skin and squeeze pathogens into the bite than to pop the mouthparts free.
03
This is different from a purpose-built tick-removal card with a small V-shaped notch that captures the head and applies upward leverage; those cards do work.
04
If you do not have tweezers or a tick card, fine-tipped tweezers from a first-aid kit are still better than improvising.
05
Grasp close to the skin and pull straight up with steady pressure.
