01
DO NOT skip DEET out of a general fear that it is too toxic.
02
DEET has been registered with the EPA since 1957 and reevaluated multiple times. At the recommended 20-30% concentration, it is considered safe for adults, pregnant people, and children older than two months.
03
The overwhelming public-health concern is too little repellent use, not too much. Tick-borne diseases like Lyme, anaplasmosis, and Powassan are real and increasing.
04
Apply per the label, avoid hands and broken skin on small children, and wash off when you come indoors.
05
Alternatives like picaridin (20%), IR3535, and oil of lemon eucalyptus are also EPA-registered and effective if you prefer them.
