Slapping duct tape over an attached tick does not pull it out cleanly and can rip the body off the embedded mouthparts.

01
DO NOT cover an attached tick with duct tape, packing tape, or any sticky adhesive in hopes of pulling it out.
02
The adhesive grips only the body. Lifting the tape tears the body free while leaving the cemented mouthparts embedded, and can squeeze pathogens into the wound.
03
It also pulls and irritates skin around the bite.
04
Duct tape is fine for disposing of a tick that is already removed; wrap it tightly and discard.
05
For removal, use fine-tipped tweezers and pull straight up with even pressure.
