Hand hygiene after removal

Wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds after removing a tick — it's the same protocol as any small wound exposure.

Steps

schema.org/HowTo
  1. 01
Set the removed tick in alcohol or sealed tape before you wash, so it doesn't get loose.
  2. 02
Wash both hands with soap and warm running water for at least 20 seconds, including under the nails.
  3. 03
Dry with a clean towel or air-dry.
  4. 04
If soap and water aren't available, use 60%+ alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  5. 05
Wipe down the tweezers or removal tool with alcohol and let them air-dry before storing.
