Using hydrogen peroxide to make a tick let go

Hydrogen peroxide does not cause attached ticks to release and only delays proper mechanical removal.

Steps

schema.org/HowTo
  1. 01
DO NOT pour hydrogen peroxide on an attached tick to try to detach it.
  2. 02
The foaming reaction damages tissue around the bite without dislodging the tick, which is anchored with cementing saliva and barbed mouthparts.
  3. 03
Any delay in removing the tick increases the chance of pathogen transmission.
  4. 04
Instead, remove the tick mechanically with fine-tipped tweezers as close to the skin as possible, pulling straight up with steady pressure.
  5. 05
Hydrogen peroxide is fine for cleaning the bite area after the tick is out, but it is not a removal tool.
