Removing a partially-attached tick (caught early)

A tick caught in the first hour usually lifts off with one smooth pull — the salivary cement hasn't fully cured.

Steps

schema.org/HowTo
  1. 01
If the tick is walking or only lightly anchored, gently brush it off with the edge of a card into a piece of tape — no tweezers needed.
  2. 02
If the mouthparts have just engaged, use fine-tipped tweezers at skin level and lift straight up — resistance will be minimal.
  3. 03
Inspect the skin: a small puncture or no mark at all is normal at this stage.
  4. 04
Clean the area with soap and water; an early catch dramatically lowers transmission risk for most pathogens.
  5. 05
Save or photograph the tick anyway — life-stage ID still helps inform follow-up.
