Rake and remove leaf litter

Removing fall leaves around the house and lawn reduces the moist refuge ticks need to survive winter and summer heat.

    Rake or blow leaves out of the lawn and away from house foundations each fall.

    Compost or remove the litter; do not pile it at the wood edge.

    Re-rake in spring to break up leftover damp piles.

    Combine with a 3-foot wood-chip barrier between lawn and woods.
