Removing a tick at altitude / cold conditions (warm-up trick)

Cold fingers fumble fine tweezers — warm hands inside a jacket for 2 minutes before attempting removal in alpine or winter conditions.

Steps

schema.org/HowTo
  1. 01
Move out of the wind and into the warmest spot available — a tent, a vehicle, or behind a rock.
  2. 02
Tuck both hands under your jacket against your torso for 2-3 minutes until dexterity returns.
  3. 03
Warm metal tweezers in a closed fist for 30 seconds — cold tips stick to skin and are harder to feel.
  4. 04
Bare only the patch of skin around the tick; keep the rest covered to preserve core temperature.
  5. 05
Grasp at skin level and pull straight up with steady pressure, then dress the bite and re-layer immediately.
