Spinning the tick clockwise to unscrew it

Clockwise rotation works no better than counterclockwise; mouthparts are barbed, not threaded, and twisting causes them to break.

Steps

schema.org/HowTo
  1. 01
DO NOT rotate the tick clockwise to try to unscrew it.
  2. 02
This variant of the spinning myth fails for the same reason: tick mouthparts are barbed, not threaded. There is nothing to unscrew.
  3. 03
Twisting often snaps the mouthparts off and can squeeze the body, raising the chance pathogens are forced into the wound.
  4. 04
Instead, pull straight up with fine-tipped tweezers grasping the tick as close to the skin as possible.
  5. 05
Use steady, even pressure until the tick releases.
