Removing a tick from the scalp

Part the hair in narrow rows under bright light, hold a helper's gaze on the tick, and tweeze without snagging hair into the bite.

Steps

schema.org/HowTo
  1. 01
Sit the person under a bright overhead light or a head-torch worn by a helper.
  2. 02
Part the hair in 1 cm sections with a fine-tooth comb to expose the skin around the tick.
  3. 03
Hold the surrounding hair back with a clip so it does not get caught in the tweezers.
  4. 04
Grasp the tick at skin level with fine-tipped tweezers and pull straight up with steady pressure.
  5. 05
Wipe the scalp with alcohol — small bleeds are normal — and mark the spot with a skin pen for follow-up.
