Tick-removal apps as your primary tool

An app can help identify a tick and log exposure, but it cannot remove the tick; you still need fine-tipped tweezers.

Steps

schema.org/HowTo
  1. 01
DO NOT confuse a tick identification app with a removal device.
  2. 02
Apps can be useful for photographing the tick, identifying species, and tracking attachment time, all of which help your clinician later.
  3. 03
But the actual removal is mechanical and requires fine-tipped tweezers or a notched tick-removal card. The app cannot do that for you.
  4. 04
Keep tweezers in a first-aid kit at home, in the car, and in any backpack you take outdoors.
  5. 05
Use the app afterward to log the exposure and watch for symptoms over the following month.
