Western blot interpretation: IgG bands (late disease)

An IgG blot is positive when at least 5 of 10 CDC-defined bands are present, the standard for testing past the first month.

Steps

schema.org/HowTo
  1. 01
    Read the IgG blot for 10 bands: 18, 23, 28, 30, 39, 41, 45, 58, 66, and 93 kDa.
  2. 02
Five or more bands constitutes a positive IgG result.
  3. 03
IgG is the appropriate readout once symptoms have persisted beyond 30 days.
  4. 04
IgG seropositivity often persists for years after successful treatment — not a marker of active infection.
  5. 05
Use IgG positivity in conjunction with clinical signs (arthritis, neuropathy, carditis).
