Wet/muddy field conditions — drying technique before grasping

Tweezers slip on wet skin and a wet tick; pat the area dry with gauze or a sleeve before you try to grip.

Steps

schema.org/HowTo
  1. 01
Move to shelter or at least kneel out of the rain so you can see clearly.
  2. 02
Pat the skin around the tick dry with gauze, a clean bandana, or a sleeve — do not wipe sideways across the tick.
  3. 03
Dry the tweezer tips on the same cloth so they don't slip.
  4. 04
Grasp the tick at skin level and pull straight up with steady pressure.
  5. 05
Drop the tick into a small zip bag with a strip of damp paper towel for later ID; clean the bite when you're somewhere drier.
