Prevention (personal): IR3535 on skin
IR3535 at 20% is a non-DEET skin repellent widely used in Europe and effective against blacklegged ticks — protection drops sharply below 20%.
Steps
schema.org/HowTo01
IR3535 is the third major EPA-registered skin repellent (along with DEET and picaridin). It is structurally similar to a naturally occurring amino acid and is widely used in Europe.
02
Effective against blacklegged ticks at 20% concentration; 10% formulations are noticeably weaker against ticks.
03
Compatible with sunscreens and gentler on synthetic fabrics than DEET.
04
Apply to exposed skin per product instructions.
05
Use it if you want a non-DEET option and 20%+ picaridin is not available. Below 20% the tick-protection drops sharply, so check the label.
